Winifred Nowlin passed peacefully at Centrica Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence in Battle Creek, MI, on July 1, 2022. Winnie was born in 1929 to Reuben and Mabel (Athearn) Small in Levering, MI. After graduation from Pelston High School she moved to Battle Creek where she attended Argubright Business College and there met her future husband, Lloyd Nowlin. They were married until his death in 1979. Winnie was employed as a secretary by Battle Creek Public Schools for over 25 years, retiring in 1992. She became an avid traveler, with Alaska, Hawaii, the British Isles and Italy as some of her destinations. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church, Burnham Brook Community Center and the Retired School Personnel Association. She enjoyed needlepoint, quilting, ceramics, gardening and playing Mah Jong with special friends. She was known for her excellent baking skills, especially her pies and strawberry cake. Winnie loved to spend time at her “up north” home in the woods of Pelston. Her grandchildren have many fond memories of summer days spent swimming at Sturgeon Bay, trekking through the streets of Mackinaw City, swinging on the tire swing and evenings spent around a campfire on their yearly visits to Grandma Winnie. Winnie is survived by children, Cindy (Greg) Kirkland and Barry (Mary) Nowlin; grandchildren, Sarah (Brian) Dahn, Erin (Mike) Hyland, Erica (Mitch) Robinson and Jacob Nowlin; great grandchildren, Bailey, Mason, Myles, Benjamin, Ty, Koda and Landon; nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Eldon and Irol (Buck) Small, and sister-in-law, Thera Balluff. A funeral service will be held on Friday July 8, 2022, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Friends are welcome to gather at 10:30 a.m. with funeral service at 11:00. Procession to Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens will follow. In lieu of flowers Memorials may be made to Centrica care Navigators(Hospice) or the First Congregational Church in Battle Creek. The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff at Centrica Care Navigators and the Villa at Winston Court. www.henryfuneralhome.org
