William Stone

William Lester Stone, 83 of Bellevue, died Wednesday, September 21, 2011. He was born July 3, 1928 in Crandall, Tennessee the son of Lee and Ada (Bateman) Stone. Mr. Stone served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, from January 28, 1953 to January 27, 1955. Following his discharge he moved to Battle Creek and worked at the V.A. Medical Center until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Bellevue. Mr. Stone was an avid sports fan who enjoyed bowling and spending time with his family. On June 29, 1979 he was married to Julia Ann (Bush) who survives. Also surviving are three daughters: Beverly Johnson, Diane Bartholomew and Melinda (Raymond Ball) Nesbitt; five step-sons: Scott Donley, Brian (Darla) Donley, David Donley, Daniel (Christie Thompson) Donley and Donald (Robbi) Donley; twelve grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; three sisters: Hattie Mae Whitt, Ellen Rhodes and Lillian Mahaffey; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife: Barbara Ann Stone; son: William L. Stone, Jr.; two daughters: Evelyn Stone and Cheryl Winans; one step grandson: Logan Donley; two brothers: Fred and Paul Stone; and three sisters: Minnie Moore, Iola Norris and Betty Owens. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1:00 p.m. Saturday at St. Ann Catholic Church, 312 S. Main Street, Bellevue with Rev. Father Francis Mossholder officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church with the Rosary to be recited at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or The A.S.P.C.A.
