William Delano

November 24, 1928 — August 4, 2015

William A. DeLano, age 86, of Battle Creek, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Bronson at Home Hospice Residence. He was born November 24, 1928 in Leroy Township, Michigan the son of Charlotte and Earl Rix. Bill graduated from Battle Creek Central High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served from 1946 to 1949. Upon his honorable discharge he enrolled at Western Michigan University, graduated with a degree in Business Administration and then began his career as a sales representative in the paperboard industry. He was an Eagle Scout of which he was most proud. On April 5, 1952 Bill was married to Bonnie J. (Steinbacher) who survives. Also surviving are four children: Heidi DeLano-Jones of Potterville, Mary (Mike) Enos of Battle Creek; Joseph DeLano of Plymouth and Daniel (Amy) DeLano of Plymouth; eight grandchildren; four great-granchildren; one sister: Shirley (Lou) Ware; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters: Michele Louise Hammond and Debra Ann Powers; brother Lyle DeLano and sister Thelma Nay. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the family to receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be given to the Humane Society of South Central Michigan.
