Wayne Harold Flickema age 84, of Battle Creek, passed away December 10, 2016. He was born on December 27, 1931 in Muskegon, Michigan, the son of Harold and Helen (Bush) Flickema. Wayne graduated from Muskegon High School in 1950. On October 24, 1952 he was united in marriage to Charlotte Madendorp in Muskegon, Michigan. Wayne served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955, working as a cryptographer and teletype operator. Following the service, he attended Muskegon Community College and later George Town University. He spent the remainder of his work career as a civilian for the National Security Agency in Washington D.C. and Ft. Mead in Maryland. Later he worked for the Defense Logistics Agency at the Battle Creek Federal Center as a senior systems computer analyst. He retired from government work in 1988 and continued his work with government contracting agency, Wilson Hill Associates until 1993, and with Information Technology Solutions until his retirement in 1996. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister; Beverly Flickema and his granddaughter Abigail Leigh Hoard. Wayne is survived by his wife of 64 years, Charlotte Flickema of Battle Creek, daughter; Laura (Kalon) Hoard of Deland, Florida, Son; Drew Flickema of Portland, Oregon, Grandchildren; Aaron, Maura and Ember. Wayne was a man of few words, but of great heart. Before becoming ill, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, bowling, gardening, playing cards, traveling, following the stock market, betting on college basketball, and helping out with tasks at church. He will be greatly missed, but knowing that he is at peace, helps ease the loss. Visitation will be Thursday, December 15, 2016 from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral service 10:30 A.M., Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Westlake Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Larry Boutelle Officiating. Interment with military honors at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
