Warren Solomon

June 17, 1941 — April 18, 2017

Warren Lee Solomon, age 75 of Battle Creek passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017 surrounded by his loving family and special friends.  He was born June 17, 1941 in Battle Creek, Michigan, the son of Glenn F. Solomon and Ethel L. Patten Solomon.  He graduated from Kellogg Consolidated High School in Hickory Corners.  He ran track and played varsity basketball for Kellogg.  Growing up on Gull Lake, he had many memories of boating, constructing docks and playing basketball in a friend’s barn.  After graduation he went on to work at Kellogg Company first in the Carton Manufacturing Division from 1960 until the closing in 1989 and then continued in Cereal Production until his retirement in 1995.  Not being the type to really retire, he went on to work at Lowes in the tool department and enjoyed being referred to as the “Tool Man”.  When he and Diane moved from Beadle Lake to Goguac Lake Warren built a six-car beauty of a garage, henceforth, known as the Garagemahal.  After sixteen years, he and Diane sold their home on Goguac Lake, “to get away from any more yard work and upkeep”, only to buy a condo there where he became the Property Manager at Bay Village Condos, now overseeing the upkeep of nearly two dozen other owner’s properties.  Warren married Diane L. Oxby on December 9, 1983.  He enjoyed travel, playing golf, boating, building things and playing pool with old friends.  Warren belonged to a trivia team which he also enjoyed.  After their passing, many people are said to be a great guy and a real saint.  Warren already was a Great Guy and a Real Saint long before he ever passed away.  His friends and family can tell you he was always the first person to help with a project, figure out the solution to a problem or volunteer to help another.  Many of his friends and neighbors would come home to a driveway that was cleared of snow and to this day have no idea who had done it.  His family and friends have suffered an enormous loss.  The world was a far, far better place when Warren was in it.  He is survived by his wife of thirty-three years Diane.  Also surviving are his daughter Shelly L. Bentz of California and son Brian K. Solomon of Florida, four grandchildren, and one great grandson, his sister Jean Combs of Colorado, his niece Cindy Combs of Colorado and nephew Fred Combs of Florida and his kitty Charlie.  In lieu of flowers you may want to consider a donation to the Humane Society in Warren’s name. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, April 24, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
