Wanda Mae Owens, age 71, of Battle Creek, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. She was born January 9, 1942 in Battle Creek, Michigan the daughter of Otto McCleary and Dorothy (Ensign) Koser. Mrs. Owens was a 1960 graduate of Battle Creek Kellogg High School and was a Nurse’s Aide helping the elderly in their homes during the 1980’s and early 1990’s; her passion however was spending time with her family. She enjoyed playing music on the organ, chasing the Hot Air Balloons, sharing on Facebook, listening to country music, playing with her kitten “Baby Girl” and shopping at the mall on Fridays with her sister, Sandy (“Sissy Day”). She also loved to travel with her husband Mark, especially to South Haven and to the Casinos. Wanda’s hobbies were sewing, Native American crafting and puzzles. She was preceded in death by both her parents; stepfather, Arthur Koser; brother, Charles McCleary; father-in-law, Raymond Owens and mother-in-law, Bessie Owens on December 4, 2013. Wanda is survived by her husband, Mark Owens; four children: Lori (Pete) Perez, Trena Johnson, Ron Baker and Carla (Joseph) Fisher; two stepsons: David and James Owens; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren with one on the way; and her sister, Sandra Boughton. Funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Minister Josh Hydrick of the 20th Street Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. www.henryfuneralhome.org
