Walter J. Noga, Jr., age 78 of Battle Creek, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. He was born February 18, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Walter and Victoria (Badon) Noga. Walt was a 1952 graduate of St. Philip High School, earned an associate’s degree from Kellogg Community College and went on to serve in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from August 1957 to August 1960. He was stationed in Fort Belvoir, Virginia and Camp TuTo Greenland. Mr. Noga worked at Union Pump Company for 35 years, retiring in 1990. In 1982 he received the George Award for his efforts in establishing the Battle Creek Farmers Market. He was a member of St. Philip Catholic Church, Polish National Alliance Lodge #2416 where he was President for 30 years, P.N.A. National Director and served as Master of Pennfield Grange #85. On May 27, 1983 he was united in marriage to Lee Anne (Sloan), who survives. Also surviving are his children: Larry (Cheri) Noga, Andrew Noga, Virginia (David) Kingsley, Kathy Jo (Raymond) Heisler and Kathleen (Theodore) Harris; 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law: Geraldine and Frank Kasperski; his first wife: Mary Ann (Gleason) on October 12, 1982; and daughter-in-law: Melody Noga. Walter enjoyed duck and goose hunting, vegetable farming and liked to experiment growing different types of vegetables. His greatest joy came from his wife Lee Anne, their children and grandchildren, whom he loved to spoil. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2013 at St. Philip Catholic Church with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. www.henryfuneralhome.org
