Walter Merriman

Walter Fredrick Merriman, age 87, of Battle Creek, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017. He was born February 16, 1930 in Dunlap, Tennessee the son of Claude and Beulah (Land) Merriman. Fred moved to Battle Creek following his service in the U.S. Army and retired from Eaton’s in 1985 where he had worked for 25 years as an electrician and foreman. After retirement he operated a logging business until the age of 80. He loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, as well as going to the casino and building homes. On November 14, 1947 he was married to Mary Jane (Weigand) who preceded him in death in 2003. Fred was also preceded by two sons: Richard and Daniel Merriman, and a daughter Darlene Bolen. Surviving are two daughters: Jessica (Matt Koyl) Ruddock of Charlotte and Christina (Josh) Whitney of Olivet; son David (Robin) Merriman of Battle Creek; eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
