Virginia “Ginny” Worthington, age 91, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother of Springfield, died Thursday, November 6, 2014. She was born August 28, 1923 in Evensville, Tennessee the youngest of 13 children to John and Sarah (Hall) Jordan. On November 21, 1941 she was married to Doyle W. Worthington in Roswell, Georgia and they made their home in Springfield since 1952. Mrs. Worthington was a stay at home mom who enjoyed quilting, crocheting and sewing, and attended Lakeview Baptist Church. Her home was the gathering place for family and friends and she was known as the “Ice Cream Lady” to many. She is survived by two daughters: Joanna “Joby” Ray of Battle Creek and Linda (Dave) Yeric of Sebring, FL; four grandchildren: Tammie (Tim) Faber of Battle Creek, Todd (Mickey) Ray of Fort Mills, SC, Angie (Rob) Price of Bentonville, AR and David (Tammi) Yeric, II of Battle Creek; seven great-grandchildren: Travis and Tyler Faber, Madeline and Marleigh Ray, Chelsea and Cassie Price and Cody Steele; three step great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Richard Norr of Battle Creek and many nieces and nephews. Ginny was preceded in death by her husband on November 27, 1998, her parents, infant daughter Cheryl Worthington, son-in-law Robert Ray and twelve siblings including Kathleen Norr and Jesse (Bootie) Jordan both of Battle Creek. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home with Rev. Adam Metzger of Lakeview Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens.
