Violet D. Mains, age 92, of Battle Creek, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Heritage Assisted Living. She was born July 23, 1928 in Battle Creek, Michigan the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Papeck) Horvat. Violet was a 1946 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School and married Virgil E. Mains on September 6, 1947. She worked in the office of Joseph C. Grant Company Department Store for 10 years. Then she worked for Hartson Accounting, Kenneth’s Bridal and Boutique and retired from Gilmore Brothers in the mall after 10 years. In 1993 she and her husband moved to Watersmeet, Michigan in the upper Peninsula but wintered in Brooksville, Florida. She enjoyed traveling in their trailer, crocheting, reading, sewing and needlework. Above all things, she dearly enjoyed her family and being around them. Violet is survived by her son, Phillip (Sue) Mains of Augusta, MI; daughter, Paula (James) Fornell of Washington, NC; brother, Jerry (Cathy) Horvat of Battle Creek; four grandchildren: Douglas E. Mains, Andrew (Savannah) Mains, Amber (Adam) Burkett and Autum (Brad) Hearon; two step granddaughters; five great-granddaughters: Addison and Ashlyn Burkett, Adeline, Charlotte and Vivian Mains; two great-grandsons: Emmitt Mains and Braden Hearon; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, her parents, brother, Joseph Horvat and sister, Caroline Mains. She attended Gull Lake United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Byrens officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. In compliance with the current State of Michigan orders, the number of persons in the funeral home is limited to 25 and masks are required of all in attendance. Violet’s service will be livestreamed and may be viewed on her obituary page at www.henryfuneralhome.org . In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
