Velma L. Holloway, age 86, of Battle Creek, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013. She was born October 14, 1926 in Bangor, Michigan the daughter of George B. and Ethel L. (Race) Wheaton. Mrs. Holloway was a 1945 graduate of Bangor High School. On January 10, 1948 she was married to James R. Holloway in Bangor and they moved to Battle Creek following their marriage. For many years Mrs. Holloway worked in the credit office at Sears and volunteered with the American Cancer Society. She was a member of Maple United Methodist Church, serving as the financial secretary and member of the choir. Her hobbies included knitting, sewing, stamp collecting and travel. She is preceded in death by her husband, James on November 2, 2011 and one sister, Darlene Adams. Surviving is her son: Mark J. (Colleen) Holloway of Kalamazoo; three grandchildren: Trent and Jason Holloway, and Allison (Brett) Snauffer and their son Logan; one sister: Macel Johnson of Cadillac, MI and extended family. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Rev. Linda D. Stoddard officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
