Velma Brininstool

Died Monday, December 4, 2017. Velma was born on December 18, 1925, in Battle Creek, the daughter of Doner and Sylvia (Murphy) Powell. She was a 1943 graduate of Manton High School. On June 17, 1951, she was united in marriage to Vaughn W. Brininstool who preceded her in death in 1988. Velma worked for Michigan Bell from 1943 to 1950, the United Way from 1951 to 1952, Conway Insurance from 1952 to 1992. Velma then worked for her son Larry at Midwest Communication Services from 1992 to 2010. She attended the West Michigan Avenue Church of the Nazarene (Hope Church of the Nazarene). She enjoyed traveling, reading, knitting and family time. Surviving are her daughters, Laura L. Mackinder, Linda K. Ryan, Nancy M. Howard, Carol A. Brininstool, and Janet M. Brininstool; her sons, Larry A. Powell, Steven W. Brininstool, Stevie Brininstool and James V. Brininstool.  18 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a son, William V. Brininstool in 1990; brothers, Rolland Powell and Verlin Powell; a sister, Donna M. Hulce; step-daughters, Ruth Ann Davis and Mary Jane Krueger. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 7:00 p.m., at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 8, 2017, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
