Tommy J. Scott of East Leroy, loving husband and father, passed away Wednesday August 7, 2013 at the age of 84. He was born on August 14, 1928 in Memphis, TX to Roy A. and Agnes (Johnson) Scott.
Tommy attended school in Texas and joined the U.S. Army in February, 1946. While stationed at Fort Custer in 1946, he met Donna B. Martin. They were married on April 1, 1948 and he was employed at Dole Supermarket as a meat cutter.
In 1951, he was called to active duty as a Reservist and was sent to Korea. After returning home,
he was employed by Ralston Purina Company. He retired from there after 40 years on February 1, 1991. Tommy received an award from the FOP for assisting in saving a life of a co-worker at Ralston’s by administering CPR. He was a volunteer for various organizations in the area. Tommy enjoyed working around his home and spending time with family. On his 54th Birthday in 1982 he took his first hot air balloon ride and on August 31, 1991, at the age of 63, he took his first parachute jump.
Tommy is survived by his wife, Donna, children, Diana (Craig) Heimberger, of Ravenna, OH; Tommy A. (Janet) Scott, of East Leroy, Susan (Paul) Westworth and Teresa Daly, both of Battle Creek, eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and his brother and sister-in-law, Billy Fred and Barry Jones, of Amarillo, TX. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1p.m.Monday August 12, 2013 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Pastor Brad Smith of Grace Community Church officiating. Inurnment will be announced at a later date, at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Diabetes Association or American Cancer Society.
