Timothy Michael Smit

Timothy Michael Smit, age 58, passed away at his home in Battle Creek, MI on Thursday, August 3, 2023. Son of Bonnie (Olson) Baker and the late Robert L. Smit, Timothy was born in Battle Creek, MI on June 21, 1965. Surviving Timothy are his son and daughter-in-law, Erich and Kristin Smit (Florida); grandchildren, Landon and Lucas Smit (Florida); mother, Bonnie O. (Thom) Baker (Florida); brother, Joseph M. Smit (Illinois); nieces and nephews (Illinois); his beloved Rottweiler, Henry. He is preceded in death by his companion of over 20 years, Jaye Sellen; father, Robert L. Smit; brother, Jason M. Smit.  Timothy graduated from Lakeview High School in 1983. He then proceeded to fulfill his love of cooking as a line cook at several restaurants around Battle Creek, with the most recent being the VA Hospital. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, sitting on his front porch with a good book and his dog by his side, and spending time at the zoo, as he had a major love for animals. His big heart and loving personality will be forever cherished and missed tremendously.  Cremation has taken place; a private celebration of life will be held by close family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Timothy’s honor to the Humane Society of South-Central Michigan or the ASPCA. Arrangements by Richard A.
