Thomas C. Jahns, age 79 of Battle Creek, Michigan passed away Monday, January 4, 2021. Tom was born April 11, 1941 in Spring Valley, Minnesota the son of Chester and Dorothy (Bertalot) Jahns. He was baptized in the Spring Valley First Methodist Church and confirmed in the First Methodist Church in Austin, Minnesota. In December 1959, Tom enlisted in the Navy and advanced to Petty Officer 2 nd Class as an Aviation Electronics Early Warning Technician. He served at NAS Barbers Point, Oahu, Hawaii with the Air Early Warning Barrier Squadron, Pacific. After his honorable discharge, Tom returned home and graduated from Mankato State College in 1968. He worked for the Federal Government in the Department of Defense and retired on January 3, 1997 at the Federal Center in Battle Creek after more than 32 years of service. On October 29, 1966 Tom married Elaine (Johnson) in Albert Lea, Minnesota and she preceded him in death in 2018. He was also preceded by his parents, sister Kathy Popp, two brothers: Dan and Rick Jahns, brother-in-law Clarion Popp, father and mother-in-law Sherman and Florence Johnson, nephew Kenney Jahns, sister-in-law Darlene (Johnson) Wick. Tom is survived by his daughter Carole Woodward of Okemos, MI, son Mike Jahns of Battle Creek, three grandchildren: Tyler and Ella Woodward of Okemos and Rylan Jahns of Battle Creek, sister Marlene Nelson of Albert Lea, MN, sister-in-law Dodie (Barris) Jahns of Gilbert, AZ, sister-in-law Sue (Stadheim) Jahns of Florence, AZ, brother-in-law Dean Wick of Holmen, WI, many nieces, nephews and cousins. A private graveside service will be held in summer of 2021 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Arrangements by the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home www.henryfuneralhome.org
