Thomas A. “Howie” Howard, Age 61, Of Battle Creek, Died Tuesday, January 31, 2017, in Battle Creek. Thomas was born on December 17, 1955, in Battle Creek, the son of Donald and Joan (McCauley) Howard. He had been a lifelong resident of the area graduating from Battle Creek Central High School in 1974 and then attended Kellogg Community College. On March 31, 1994, he was united in marriage to the former Nancy M. Brininstool who survives. Tom was employed as a groundskeeper for the city for 20 years taken care of the grounds at Bailey Park. He then was in Field service plowing the city roads. He was an avid sports fan following the Tigers, Lions, Red Wings and U of M. Tom enjoyed being with his family and being outdoors. Surviving are his children, Ellen (Tom) Schaeffer, Emily Howard and Wm “Billy” Howard; grandchildren, Hailee and Hunter Schaeffer; a brother, David Mullett; aunt, Barb McCauley and uncles, Bill and Jim Halstead; several nieces, nephews, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Pixie Hacker and grandparents, Lester and Josephine Halstead who raised him. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 6, 2017, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. www.henryfuneralhome.org
