Thomas Groves, Age 89, Of Battle Creek, 1924 - 2013, Passed away at home the morning of November 16, 2013 surrounded by his loving family, including Helen, his wife of 66 years. He was born on April 1, 1924 in Allison, Pennsylvania to James and Mazie (Pascute) Groves. He was the last surviving child of 12 siblings. In March of 1943 he was inducted into the Army and served for 3 years during WWII where he was awarded two bronze stars for his service in the Rhineland campaign in France. Tom married Helen Smyksy in 1947 and moved to Battle Creek, they soon found jobs at the Kellogg Cereal Company where he worked for the next 34 years. He was the proud father of 3 sons, Thomas Jr (Karen, dec), Edward (Heidi Grether) and Terry (Jane). He had two grandchildren Jamie (Erika) and Angie (John Cheek) and a great grandson Joel Thomas Groves. He was a member of the Kellogg 25 year club, the American Legion Post 298 and the VFW 565. He loved nothing more than being with his family. He was always playing his guitar or humming a tune. He was an avid fisherman, gardener, and euchre player. A visitation will be held at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home in Battle Creek on Thursday, November 21st from 5 to 8pm. The memorial service will be held at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Friday, November 22nd at 12:30pm. Burial will follow at the Fort Custer National Cemetery.
