Thomas W. Couey, Jr., age 67, of Battle Creek, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Bronson Battle Creek. He was born June 17, 1950 to Thomas and Mildred (Crane) Couey in Battle Creek. A 1968 graduate of Springfield High School, Tom served as an electronics systems specialist in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He attended KCC, CWRU, Davenport College, KVCC, GRJC and GVSU for Engineering. He retired from Post Cereal in 2007 after 28 years of service as an Electronics Maintenance Technician and was previously employed by IBM and Data 100. He was a member of the American Legion Post #298 and St. Joseph Catholic Church, and was previously a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He enjoyed coaching rocket football at Harper Creek during late 1980’s and early 1990’s. In his spare time, he enjoyed restoring lawn tractors, was a licensed ham radio operator, R/C airplanes, playing guitar, watching NASCAR and spending time with his family. On October 30, 1971, he married Debra Dean and they had 3 children. He is survived by his wife Debra Couey of Battle Creek, sons Thomas Couey III of Ewa Beach, HI and Christopher (Theresa) Couey of Battle Creek, daughter Collette Neuman of Battle Creek, grandchildren Jacob Neuman, Ryan and Alexis Couey of Battle Creek, sister Sandra Morgan of Battle Creek and brother Michael Couey of Battle Creek. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with The Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 21, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with interment to follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
