The Rev. Richard M. Young, Age 82, Of Athens, Passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 7, 2014. He was born November 5, 1931 in Buffalo, New York the son of Otto M. and Grace Irene (Bates) Young. He had been a resident of Athens since 1991. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1948 serving tours in both Korea and Vietnam and retired in 1971 as a Staff Sergeant. Richard then went on to Seminary College in Chicago and served the United Methodist Church for many years. On April 19, 1969 he was united in marriage to Barbara A. (Winslow) at Convis United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of Michigan, Masonic Lodge #12, V.F.W. #5319, American Legion Post # 0465 and the Athens United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bow hunting and bowling. Surviving is his wife, Barbara Young of Athens; son: Craig H. (Lori) Young of Marshall and three grandchildren, Ryan E. Young, Ashley A. Young and Austin D. Young. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 to 4:00 p.m. and 6 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the funeral home.
