The Rev. Charles Sandum

Rev. Charles Richard Sandum, age 79, passed away on August 12, 2014 in Battle Creek, MI.  He was born on February 9, 1935 to Carl  and Stella (Bottcher) Sandum in Austin, Minnesota.  He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carol Sandum, three sons, Steven (Antoinnette), Keith (Kim) and Tom (Laurie),  9 grandchildren and one brother, Allan Sandum.  He was preceded in death by one son, Bryan Patrick Sandum. Charles (Chuck) received a Master of Divinity from Dallas Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Divinity at Northern Seminary.  He served as pastor of Lakeview Baptist Church from 1980 through 1993.  He also pastored churches in Coats and Stafford in Kansas; Norfolk, NE; and Ashtabula, OH.  He served as interim pastor in several churches throughout Michigan, Ohio and Illinois.  Chuck also served as a hospital chaplain at Battle Creek Health System and led Bible studies at Northpointe Woods.  He was active in Kiwanis having served as president of the Battle Creek Kiwanis and as lieutenant governor for Michigan Kiwanis.  He enjoyed singing with the Burnham Brook Singers and Community Chorus for many years. Chuck kept very active, playing tennis and golf and walking the various dogs they’ve had over the years.  He also enjoyed fishing and reading, especially historical works.  He had a strong academic mind and enjoyed studying the New Testament in the original Greek.  Services will be held at Lakeview Baptist Church in Battle Creek, MI on Friday, August 15 at 11:00 am, with a graveside service and luncheon following.  Visitation hours will be held from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, August 14 at the Richard A.
