Theodore C. “Ted” Homan, age 65, died Sunday, September 8, 2024, with his loving family by his side at his home. He was born January 8, 1959, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the son of Edward Norton Homan and Patricia Ann (Cutsinger) Homan. Ted graduated from Galesburg High School in 1977 with a great academic career and was an integral part of the football and basketball programs…Go Rams! He then went on to Olivet College, continuing his stellar academic career, playing football as the starting center as a proud Comet. He was an active member of the Kappa Sigma Alpha fraternity, graduating in 1981 with a major in Biology and minor in Education. He loved learning life lessons and inspiration from his coaches and his experience with his educators. Ted’s most valuable lesson came from his high school football coach, Coach Maskill. He taught him the value of working hard for what you want, reaching a bit deeper to overcome obstacles when you encounter them, and not allowing others to place limitations on you. His goal was to teach biology and to coach but was presented with a great opportunity with the Kellogg Company right after college. He traveled extensively throughout the world in his role as Vice President of Shared Services – Research, Quality, and Technology, and retired in 2015 after 30 years of service. Ted had many passions including fishing, racing of all types (especially NHRA drag racing), college football and basketball (especially Michigan, Go Blue!!), landscaping (he definitely had a green thumb), and classic rock music. He was a foodie, appreciating cuisine from all over the world, and he loved to cook. He followed the stock market daily and was always happy to share his knowledge with family and friends. His favorite vacation spots were Shanty Creek in Bellaire, Michigan and Siesta Key, Florida. In 1991 he lovingly and physically built the home where he raised his family. His greatest accomplishment of his life was his children, whom he is survived by: Brian Homan, Megan (Derek) Rice, Sarah Homan and her fiancé, Chris Manson; four grandchildren: Payton, Gavin, Connor, and Mia Rice all of Battle Creek; his best friend and loving partner of 15 years, Angela Dale of Haslett; two sisters-in-law: Margaret Richar of Battle Creek and Michele Homan of Jacksonville, Florida; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and his former wife of 24 years, Lisa Homan. Ted was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Tim and Tod Homan. Ted’s life and travel exposed him to so many people, most of whom became lifelong friends. He was grateful for, and cherished, all the people in his life that shaped the man he became. He had a witty, dry sense of humor and was a genuine, modest, hardworking, intelligent, dedicated, insightful, respectful, and humble man. He was a man that loved with his entire soul and a beloved father, “poppa,” and friend. A private family graveside service will be held at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. A gathering to celebrate his life and the people he loved will be held at Riverside Golf Club and Banquet Center at 245 East Columbia Avenue, Battle Creek, on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 2:00 – 6:00 pm.
