Sylvia Caroline Starks

Sylvia Caroline (Sunday) Starks, age 95, of Battle Creek, Michigan passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at Kairos Dwelling Home. She was born January 16, 1928, in Scarbro, West Virginia, the daughter of Andrew and Myrtle (Stewart) Sunday. She moved to Battle Creek in 1954. Sylvia was employed as manager at Sullivan’s Ice Cream for 11 years in the 1960’s. She was also employed at Sally’s Hallmark from the 1970’s until her retirement. She was married to Oren Arnold Starks, Jr. from 1951 until his death in 2009. She is survived by her children: Oren (Gloria) Arnold Starks, III of Fairview, Tennessee, and Debra Kay Nelson of Battle Creek; sister Charlotte Land of Lillian, Alabama; grandchildren: Kristen L. Gaskill-Starks, Nicole L. Lee and Casey N. Nelson: great-grandchildren: Ashley Allison, Brandon McCoy, Caden McCoy, Loren Farias and Gavin Farias; great-great-granddaughter Courtlyn Allison, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Oren, brothers: Joseph, William, Jack and Donald Sunday; and sisters: Eleanor Woods, Ruth Allen and Carol Marcus. Sylvia enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and spending time with family and friends. She was a season ticket holder at the Barn Theater for many years where she enjoyed attending shows and meeting the performers. She was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and Michigan Wolverines. A private graveside service was held August 5, 2023, at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements by the Richard A.
