Summer Desiree McMillon

Summer Desiree McMillon, age 45 of Battle Creek, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024. She was born August 28, 1978, in Battle Creek, Michigan, the daughter of Gary and Dawn (Nelson) McMillon. Summer worked at Musashi Auto Parts for the past decade where she earned her Journeyman certificate. Prior to that, she worked for the Applecore Café (The Core Bistro) in Urbandale, Cracker Barrel in Battle Creek and Pasche’s Seafood Restaurant. At each place she was either running the kitchen or was their most reliable and consistent member of the kitchen staff, always volunteering to work extra to cover shifts, always willing to help and going above and beyond. Summer is survived by two daughters: Elizabeth Perkins and Desiree Allred of Battle Creek; her partner Henry Covington of Battle Creek; her parents Gary and Dawn McMillon; two sisters: Heather (Patrick) McMillon and Jennifer (Sam) McMillon both of Lansing; brother, Shane McMillon of Battle Creek, and her niece and nephew, Isaiah and Avayiah McMillon of Battle Creek. Also surviving Summer are twenty-five first cousins, and eight aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her sister Taylor McMillon, her first cousins Darby and Desaney McMillon, and her grandma, Margaret Nelson,  who all passed in 2022, as well as her Uncle Hoyt McMillon who passed in 2023. Summer was an excellent employee, she was reliable, a hard worker, and she was loved by all whom she worked with. She was the life of the party, loved to travel to watch drag races, and loved the ocean. Summer was always the most upbeat and positive person at work, having more fun than anyone else there, even if it was bright and early. She had a laugh that was infectious and impossible for anyone to ignore, and once she started laughing, she didn't stop until tears streamed down or her sides hurt. Every room she ever walked into was better for having her there. Summer, or Summertime, as many lovingly called her, was deeply loved and will be missed by so many. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 703 Capital Avenue, SW, Battle Creek. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. www.henryfuneralhome.org
