Steven L. Ricketson, 59, of Parchment, formerly of Battle Creek passed away Saturday August 27, 2011 at his home. He was born on June 11, 1952 in Battle Creek to Lee C. “Bud” and Roselyn (Clark) Ricketson. Steve graduated from Lakeview High School in 1970 where he was a member of the swim team, Central Michigan University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Sociology in 1974, and the Michigan State Police Academy 89th Recruit School in 1975, where he was the class orator. He was employed as a Michigan state trooper at the Rockford Post, Detroit Freeway Post, and South Haven Post, as a Sergeant at the Niles Post, and a Detective/ Sergeant with Southwest Michigan Enforcement Team until his retirement in 2000 after 25 years of service. Steve married Sally Dickerson on April 27, 1991 in Kalamazoo. Surviving are, his wife, Sally, of Parchment, father, Lee C. “Bud” Ricketson, of Battle Creek, a sister, Kathleen M. (Alan) Venn, of Mill Spring, NC; and his special friends, Barney and Hoopurr. Steve was preceded in death by his mother Roselyn in 1997. Steve was a member of the Isle Royal Boaters’ Association and the Porch Sitters’ Association. He enjoyed annual spring fishing trips with his father and friends at Robertson Lake in Canada. Steve’s favorite place to relax with friends and family was on the porch at his cottage on Long Lake in Climax. Woodworking, boating, and just being outdoors with nature were other activities he enjoyed.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2 pm Friday September 2, 2011 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 12 noon to 2 pm Friday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the West Michigan Cancer Center or the Fallen Trooper Memorial, c/o Michigan State Police Troopers Association, 1715 Abbey Road, Suite B, East Lansing, MI 48823
