Steve L. Mellich age 90, of Orlando, Florida passed away January 2, 2017 at his home. He was born on October 4, 1926 in Saginaw, Michigan, and came to Battle Creek from 1934-1953. He served in the United States Army from 1943-1971, where he was stationed at Ft. Benning in Georgia, Ft. Campbell in Kentucky, and in Frankfurt, Germany. He was united in marriage on July 17, 1955 to Laura Hartson; she preceded him in death on January 19, 1995. Steve was employed from 1972-1997 by Tom Clements Inc. where he delivered and inventoried sheet metal. He was a member of the D.A.V., V.F.W., Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Moose Lodge. Steve enjoyed fishing and was an avid bingo player. Over his lifetime he provided many a homeless dog and cat a place for shelter, food and love. He is survived by a daughter; Leslie (Jessie) McBride of Lexington, Kentucky, Son; Steve (Terri) Mellich of Orlando, Florida. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2016 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 12, 2016 at the funeral home, with Rev. Dr. James M. Gysel officiating, interment with military honors to follow at Ft.
