Stephen Vernia

Stephen P. Vernia age 68, of Battle Creek, passed away on January 22, 2018.  He was born on June 24, 1949 in Battle Creek, the son of Vincent and Betty (Smith) Vernia.  Stephen was a 1967 graduate of Lakeview High School, following high school he received two associates degrees from Kellogg Community College.  He was employed by the Battle Creek Federal Center for over thirty years as a systems analyst before retiring in 2010.  Stephen was a member of the Pennfield Optimist Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and served in the United States Army.  He was an avid reader and enjoyed bowling and playing golf.  Stephen was preceded in death by his parents; Vincent and Betty Vernia and a brother; Larry Vernia.  Surviving are his children; James Steele of Battle Creek, Angie (Chad) Kennedy of Battle Creek, Joni Vernia, Paul Vernia, both of Jackson, two sisters, a brother, and five grandchildren.  Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home & Cremation services.  Committal services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2018 at the Fort Custer National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pennfield Optimist Club.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.henryfuneralhome.org
