Sidney Sherman Davenport, age 75, of Pennfield, passed away Monday, November 10, 2014 at the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. He was born September 19, 1939 in Pikeville, Tennessee the son of Walter Edward and Zetta Plura (Payne) Davenport. Mr. Davenport served in the U.S. Army from April 10, 1958 to April 9, 1960 with the majority of the time being in Germany. He was a past leader of Cub Scout Troop 328 at Purdy School, former member of the Pennfield Lions Club and was a co-founder of the Pennfield Rocket Football program. Prior to his retirement in 1990, he worked at General Motors in Kalamazoo since the opening of the plant. On April 7, 1961 he was married to Mary L. Davenport, who survives. Also surviving is his son Gregory S. Davenport of Battle Creek and brother Johnny Davenport of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother William C. Davenport and two sisters: Jobyna Pietrogallo and Mary Smith. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. this evening.
