Shirley A. Shelton, 84, of Battle Creek passed away Sunday July 22, 2012 at Minges Manor. She was born on September 21, 1927 in Battle Creek to Frank and Thelma (Russell) Thoms.
Shirley graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1945. She was united in marriage on October 26, 1947 to William G. Shelton, he preceded her in death on November 20, 2009.
Shirley was employed at Battle Creek Gas Company for 23 years until she retired in 1989.
She is survived by daughters, J. Lynne (John) Barberio and Toni A. (Sam) Underwood, grandchildren, Shane J. Cornell, Carrie A. (Cornell) Taft, Trini (Barberio) Hinchliffe, Stephanie N. (Fritz) Stemaly, and J. Nicholas Fritz II, great grandchildren, Olivia Lynne Taft, Abbigail Madison Taft, Sarah Elizabeth Stemaly, Caleb William Stemaly, Chloe Marie Cornell, Maddie and Bella Hinchliffe. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Mapes.
Shirley attended the First Wesleyan Church and was a longtime member of Riverside Country Club. She enjoyed golfing and bowling.
Family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm Tuesday July 24, 2012 at Richard A. Henry Funeral Home where services will be held 10 am Wednesday with Rev. Dr. Robert H. Zuhl officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to American Cancer Society or Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice.
