Shirley A. Jones, 83, of Battle Creek entered into her new life surrounded by her family on Tuesday June 11, 2013 at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. She was born on November 6, 1929 in Jackson, MI to Raymond W. and Alice (Elson) Luke.
Shirley graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1948. She was united in marriage on September 2, 1950 to Richard N. Jones, he preceded her in death on June 26, 2006. Shirley was first employed as a secretary at the Law Office of Wunsch, Coleman, and Hatch. She then spent many years at home raising her family before returning to the workforce as a cashier at Cut Rate Grocery for 22 years, retiring in 1985.
Surviving are her sons, Richard (Ronna) Jones, David (Patty Curtis) Jones, a daughter, Amy (David) Wilcox, all of Battle Creek, four grandchildren, Erika (Tyler) Paesens, Hillary (Ben) Kohn, Alex and Lauren Wilcox, four great grandchildren, and several cousins. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Shirley enjoyed antiquing with her husband Dick, reading, going to the casino, and spending time with her family.
Family will receive friends from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm Thursday June 13, 2013 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Services will be held 1:30pm Friday at St. Mark Lutheran Church with Rev. Brad Hubbard officiating. Entombment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be given to Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence.
