Sarah Anne Laya, age 49, of Benton Harbor, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018. She was born January 27, 1969 in South Korea and was adopted and came to the United States on August 6, 1976. Sarah had worked at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph and Perrigo in Allegan. She is survived by her son Pierre Laya; lifelong sweetheart Mark Boff; mother and step-father Marsha Laya and Lee Smittendorf; brother Benjamin Laya; sister Nia Kennedy Suter; nephew Anthony Kennedy; several aunts, uncles and cousins. A celebration of Sarah’s life will be held Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Mission Pointe Restaurant, 8896 North 32 nd Street, Richland, MI beginning with a gathering of friends and family from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. A message of hope will be provided by Rev. Gy Ludvig-McCartney at 12:45 p.m. followed by a buffet luncheon from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sarah’s honor may be made to The Boys and Girls Clubs of Benton Harbor, attn: Director of Resources and Development, 600 Nate Wells Sr. Dr., Benton Harbor, MI 49022 or The Unitarian Universalist Community Church, 10441 Shaver Road, Portage, MI, 49024.
