Sarah M. Boone passed away peacefully at Rose Arbor Hospice, surrounded side by side by her supportive, faithful, and attentive daughter, caring and loving son, kind grandchildren and other family, on Wednesday April 3, 2024. Sarah was born in 1939 in Spangler, PA in rural Cambria County, and raised in Lewistown, PA, the third of the late, John C. and Emma J. (Kirkpatrick) Hogue’s six children. Sarah, oftentimes known to friends and family as Sally, graduated from Lewistown High School in 1957 and attended Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing in Philadelphia, earning her RN certification in 1960. Sarah went on to be a nurse for 42 years and retired from Bronson Healthcare in 2003. Sarah married Daniel R. Boone in 1961 and celebrated 58 years together and their three wonderful children. After moving her family to Battle Creek, with husband Dan in 1974, Sarah gained many special friends, enjoyed traveling to see family back east, was a staunch supporter of the Michigan State University basketball and football teams by watching every game, became an avid collector of Kellogg’s memorabilia, and was a longtime member of St. Joseph Church.
Sarah is survived by daughter Mary (Tom) Clark, of Battle Creek, MI, son Michael (Danielle) Boone of Verona, NJ, four special grandchildren Rachael Clark; Libby Clark; Charlie Boone and Noah Boone. She is also survived by her brother Mike (Sharon) Hogue of Glenwood, MD, sister Nancy (Robert) Foor-Hogue of Manchester, MD, and many delightful nieces, nephews, and their children. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Dan in 2019, daughter, Rebecca Boone in 2020, sister Ann (Clinton) Herbster, and brothers Jack (Audrey) Hogue and Patrick Hogue.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Richard A. Henry Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 703 Capital Ave SW, Battle Creek, followed by a recitation of The Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 12, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 61 N. 24th Street, Battle Creek followed by a luncheon in the parish center.
