Sandra Ann Shutt was called home to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Wednesday, December 5, 2018, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was dearly loved by all who knew her, never failing to smile warmly and serve whole heartedly. Sandra was born to Marshall E. and Ida (Kulseth) Jaeger on March 3, 1940 in La Crosse, Wisconsin where her extended family lived. The family later moved to Battle Creek. Sandra graduated from Lakeview High School, and soon after married Stanley K. Sly. They had three children together. Sandra worked at Post Cereal until retiring in 1995 from Building 4, where she was a union steward and served as chairwoman for the United Way fund. She married Gene Shutt in 1968 and they lived in Battle Creek nearly all of their 50 years together. Sandra’s greatest joy in life was her family, whom she adored. She effortlessly held nearly all of their extended family gatherings with her sister, Marlene by her side. They were known as the self-proclaimed "kitchen help.” Sandra enjoyed decorating, planning & hosting parties and buying gifts for her family, who affectionately referred to her as the "Cruise Director. "She served tirelessly and lovingly nearly her entire life. She actively adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren until the day she left this earth. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Ricky Keith Sly, and her husband of 50 years, Gene Shutt, her beloved brother, Marshall “Sonny” Jaeger, her dear sister, Marlene Rice, her lovely granddaughter, Nicole Kidney and stepdaughter Lori Shutt Avers. She is survived by her daughter Victoria (Bart) Walker of Ceresco, her son Rick (Kathleen) Sly of Hickory Corners; grandsons Jeffrey (Claire) Kidney of Vicksburg, Luke Sly of Grand Blanc, Samuel Sly of Hickory Corners, Steven (Simone) Cato of Detroit, Michael Johnson of Zeeland, six great grandchildren; Makaio, Josiah, Emmanuel & Nadia Cato and Jax and Adaline Kidney, and several in-laws, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2018 at Friends Church in Battle Creek, Pastor John Grafton officiating.
