Sandra Kay Belmore

Passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at her home in Battle Creek. Sandra was born on November 2, 1944, in Battle Creek, the daughter of Richard and Margaret (Scott) Mason. She graduated from Athens High School and then received her Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Michigan and her Masters degree from Western Michigan University. She married James E. Belmore on June 11, 1967 at the Athens United Methodist Church, and they moved to Battle Creek where they raised their family. Sandra was a nurse and retired from the VA Hospital in Battle Creek after a long career. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time at her family cabins in Northern Michigan. She also enjoyed many adventures, lunches and shopping with her lifelong best friend Mary Cherney. In her early fifties she learned to scuba dive, and she spent time diving with her children and extended family taking trips to fun destinations such as Tobermory Ontario in Canada, Palm Springs and Key West Florida. Sandra was a devoted member of the Athens Methodist Church and dedicated much of her free time volunteering for activities supporting the Athens Community. She was preceded in death by her Husband James E. Belmore and her parents Richard and Margaret Mason. Surviving are her children, Kelley (Robert) Hollingsworth, Janel (Brad) Folkert and James “J.R.” (Kristi) Belmore; 14 grandchildren; a sister Roberta (Gerald) Voss. 

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at the Athens Methodist Church. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be at Burr Oak Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in her memory be made to Athens Methodist Church, 123 Clark St., Athens, MI
