Sam D. “SD” Langford Jr., 86, of Battle Creek passed away Saturday June 8, 2013 at home.
He was born on October 15, 1926 in Osborn, MS to Sam and Bertha N. (Brown) Langford.
Sam served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Pharmacist Mate on a PT boat. He graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Agriculture Education. Sam was united in marriage to Anna M. Swartz, she preceded him in death in 1987. He then married Wendlyn Fletcher, who survives. Sam was employed by Oliver Corporation, Ashley Dairy, and the Kellogg Company for twenty years, retiring in 1990.
Also surviving is a son, Timothy E. (Anita) Langford, of Battle Creek, grandsons, Joshua Dunn and Joel Knight Langford, both of MS; brothers Aubrey Langford, of MS; Leroy Langford, of MS; Raymond Langford, of NV and Travis Langford, of NC; sisters, Ednabell Cain, of IN; and Mary Virginia Tate, of MS. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Frank Langford.
Sam was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the church council, the PT Boat Association of Michigan, Elks, Navy League, and the V.F.W. Post.
Visitation will be held from 6pm to 8pm Wednesday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home and 10am to 11am Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Services will be held 11am Thursday June 13, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Erick Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at North Fulton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to American Cancer Society.
