Ruth L. Wilhelms, age 86, of Battle Creek, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. She was born February 17, 1928 in Marshall, Michigan the daughter of Dale and Erma (Bachman) Gillum. Ruth worked at Post Cereal for several years and later did home parties for various companies. On August 10, 1944 she married Edward Wilhelms who preceded her in death on September 2, 1982. She was also preceded by her parents; two sisters: Gloria Bender and Jean Youmans and five brothers: Dale, William, Richard, Wendell and Michael. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Lois (Charles) Peet; three grandchildren: Amy Boulanger, Edward (Leah) Peet and Louis (Amy) Peet; six great-grandchildren: Taylor, Ty, Grace, Hannah, Josey and Tucker; and one sister, Sharon Tooker of Houghton Lake, MI. Ruth was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary #565, bowled on numerous leagues throughout the years and loved to go to the casino and play bingo and slots. She enjoyed her time camping at Jones Lake and fishing with her companion Jim Dellinger. Ruth was always working on a craft project and crocheted various items for her granddaughters at their request. She loved all the family dinners and spending time with family was one of the most important things in her life. Ruth spent many years as a caregiver for many of her family. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with interment to follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens.
