Ruth Mildred Sykes, age 71, of Battle Creek, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at The Colonial House in Marshall. She was born May 17, 1950, in Battle Creek, Michigan the daughter of Lyle and Mildred (Freese) Lindsey. Ruth was a 1967 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School and had worked at numerous restaurants over the years including Speeds, Big Boy, Saga Foods, Bazley’s Market and Family Fare. She retired in 2010 from Bentler Automotive where she had worked for 20 years. Ruth was a member of the Family Altar Chapel. She loved cooking, traveling, puzzles and most importantly spending time with her family. On June 1, 1968, Ruth married Jimmy Sykes who survives. She is also survived by two children: Teresa (Brad) Letner of Apple Valley, California and David (Rachel) Sykes of Kalamazoo; nine grandchildren; one brother: James (Mary) Lindsey of Redding, Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, brother Frankie Lindsey; three sisters: Lyla Champion, Margie Champion and Mary “Aggie” Sykes, and granddaughter Abagail Letner. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at The Family Altar Chapel with Rev. Travis Davis and her son Rev. David Sykes officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Family Altar Chapel. www.henryfuneralhome.org
