Russell W. “Russ” Rivers, 86, of Battle Creek passed away Monday January 6, 2014 at Select Specialty Hospital. He was born on April 6, 1927 in Battle Creek to Walter C. and Bertha G. (Abbey) Rivers.
Russ graduated from Hastings High School in 1944 and Michigan State University in 1951.
He served in the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant during WWII. Russ was united in marriage to Ardis L. Miller on March 21, 1950 in Lansing, MI. He was employed by Post Cereals from 1951 until he retired as Facility Manager in 1982.
Russ is survived by his wife, Ardis L. Rivers, a son, Mark R. (Liz) Rivers, of Battle Creek, a daughter, Mary C. (Doug) Swan, of Ellenton, FL; six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and a brother, Ronald Rivers, of Hastings. He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Ferguson.
Russ enjoyed woodworking, gardening, traveling, fishing, hunting, golfing, playing cards, and spending time with his grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be held 11am Tuesday January 14, 2014 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Rev. Travis Davis officiating. Inurnment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
