Died Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at his residence. Roy was born on March 25, 1932, in Arlington, TN, the son of Roy L. and Minnie E. (Boyd) Slaughter. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1955 during the Korean War. Roy had been an area resident since 1955. On April 11, 1956, he was united in marriage to the former Virginia J. Howard who preceded him in death in 2005. He was employed with the Ironworkers Local 340 from 1966 to 1976 then owned and operated Slaughter’s Restaurant from 1976 until his retirement in 1992. He enjoyed skeet shooting and was a sharpshooter in the Army, old cars and working on cars. Surviving are sons, Ronald R. (Fran) Slaughter of Kalamazoo and Robert Foust of Battle Creek; Daughters, Kimberly (Brayden) Copeland, Alisa (Robert) Smith and Angela Slaughter-Mahoney all of Battle Creek; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Leslie Foust; 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 24, 2018, from 11 to 1:00 p.m., at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with a graveside service at Fort Custer National Cemetery with full military honors to follow at 1:30 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Humane Society of South Central MI. www.henryfuneralhome.org
