Rolland "Smitty" Smith

Rolland “Smitty” Smith, 97 of Battle Creek and formerly of Lake City, passed away peacefully on March12, 2025 at home with family. He was born in 1928 in Battle Creek. He owned and restored Kingman Castle and had a truck with a Castle Man sign on the door and was known for hosting parties after the Leila Follies. Smitty faithfully served his country in the US Army in Alaska. He worked and retired from General Foods/Post Cereals after 35 years. He married twice and had three children; Mike, Sherry and Sheila, and two stepsons, James and Stephen Bennett.

Smitty loved to camp and enjoyed the outdoors, especially being in the woods. He was a sportsman and loved hunting moose, bear and deer, loved to fish and was a builder of many projects for family and friends and always enjoyed helping others. Smitty and his wife Pamelia traveled throughout the United States. In the winter, they went south to sell Christmas trees, visited friends and family in Las Vegas and Florida. Smitty loved to canoe and went on many canoe trips to Canada and Alaska with his friends for a month at a time during the summer.

Smitty was an amazing man and was very active in the American Legion in Lake City. He loved walking in parades as a clown or Keystone Cop with his beloved dogs. He had a great spirit and sense of humor and connected easily with everyone he met. Smitty was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
