Robert C. Nelson, Age 91, Of Battle Creek, Died Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at Bronson Battle Creek. Robert was born on May 8, 1920, in Battle Creek, the son of John W. and Flossie (Gaskill) Nelson. He had been a lifelong resident of the area. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during WWII. On May 2, 1956, he was united in marriage to the former Jacqueline E. Newman who preceded him in death on October 28, 1994. Robert was employed at the VA Hospital from 1945 to 1950 and then with Eaton Manufacturing from 1950 until his retirement in 1980. He was a member at St. Philip Catholic Church, a life member at the American Legion Post 54, Eagles 299 and the Moose Lodge 676. He enjoyed dancing and repairing CB and Ham radios with his handle being “Gramps”, driving and eating out at the Old Country Buffet daily. He loved having dessert after every meal and going to every family celebration arriving first every time. Surviving are daughters, Bobbi Jo (Leonard “Bud”) Forsythe of Battle Creek and Sandy King of Kansas; grandchildren, Shannon (Calvin) Newlands of Memphis, MI, and Jason (Pam Kraft) Forsythe of Battle Creek; great grandchildren, Alayna Forsythe and Conner, Logan and Brynn Newlands; several step -grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters, Belva Kraft, Wilma Smith and Frances Carter. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 6:00 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 18, 2012, at the funeral home with The Rev. Harold Potter officiating. Interment will be at Bedford Cemetery. www.henryfuneralhome.org
