Passed away on October 9, 2017, at Bickford of Battle Creek Assisted Living. He was born on January 29, 1926 in Battle Creek to Harold and Ernestine McDonald. He was a lifelong resident of Battle Creek, graduating from Battle Creek Central in 1944, where he was a member of their 1944 championship swim team. He served with the United States navy from May 1944 to June 1946. He worked for Kellogg Company for 38 years, retiring in 1985. He was united in marriage on July 5, 1947 with the love of his life, Doris L. Downs. Married for 70 years, they had 4 children. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and golf. He took several trips out west to go hunting and a trip to Canada to go fishing. They traveled to Hawaii, Alaska and several cruises leaving from Florida. They spent the month of March in Florida for many years both before and after retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post 298 and Kellogg’s 25 Year Club. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife Doris L. McDonald; daughters, Barbara Evans- Crisher, Sally (Ed) Brown both of Battle Creek; a son, John (Deb) McDonald of Mesa, AZ; 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Margaret Bryant and his youngest daughter, Terry Link. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3 to 5:00 p.m., at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 16, 2017, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Floral Lawn Memorial Garden.
