Robert Gould

Robert A. Gould, 85, of Battle Creek passed away Tuesday December 25, 2012 at The Oaks at NorthPointe Woods from complications of Parkinson’s disease. He was born on January 27, 1927 in Battle Creek to Orville and Florence (Banks) Gould.
Robert is survived by his former wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Balogh, his son’s, Pattric and Terry, daughters,  Rose Ann and Valerie, grandchildren, David, Thomas, Brian, Christopher, Brandon, and Dan, great grandchildren, and close friends. Robert survived his half-brother’s Russell and Stillman Gould, sisters, Ethel, Clara, and Margie.
Robert lived an exciting life. He started many businesses including aircraft salvage, communications, and excavation. Noted businesses were Gould Crane Company and X-Way Towing. Robert served in the Army Reserves and active duty Air Force. His mechanical abilities were essential in keeping aircraft flying in Korea. Robert loved aircraft and owned his own plane, flying around the country as a free spirit. Upon his return from Korea he married his pen pal, Elizabeth (Fales), and started their family. They were active in the Civil Air Patrol. Robert continued his love of heavy equipment and started his career as a heavy equipment operator with Reith Riley Construction Company and had served as a union steward. Upon his retirement, he started another career as a volunteer fireman with the Newton and Emmett Township Fire Departments where he retired from both. At the same time he also had an underground contracting business laying sewer lines. Robert joined the Masonic fraternity in 1971 and served as the Worshipful Master on four occasions. He was also a member of the Knights Templar Drill Team and a life member of American Legion Post # 298.  Robert also served as an usher at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday December 31, 2012 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. Memorial contributions may be given to Michigan Parkinson Foundation
