Robert W. Fritz, age 94 of Battle Creek, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. He was born February 21, 1920 in Tonica, Illinois the son of Robert and Alvina (Kuehn) Fritz. Mr. Fritz was a graduate of LaSalle High School in Peru, Illinois and served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during WWII, from June 3, 1944 to January 30, 1946. On July 27, 1941 he was married to Rose G. (Bartlett) in Napoleon, Indiana, who preceded him in death on September 18, 2013. They have lived most of their life in Battle Creek with the exception of seven years in Mendon.  He was also preceded by two daughters: Karen and Vicki and three brothers. Mr. Fritz had worked at Priest’s Motor Shop for several years and retired in 1985 from the Battle Creek Enquirer where he had worked since 1965. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 298 where he held several offices and was active in the Cub Scouts for many years. He was also a member of the Marshall Moose Lodge 696, enjoyed bowling, golf, cooking and going to the casino. Surviving are four children: Douglas (Betsy) Fritz, James (Robin) Fritz, Roger Fritz and Janis (Sam) Charameda; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Fort Custer National Cemetery with Rev. Larry Hendershot officiating. Those wishing to attend, please meet in the assembly area prior to service time. Following the graveside service all are invited to a luncheon to be held at American Legion Post 298, 228 N. 20th Street, Battle Creek.
