Robert Ernest Crooks, Age 89, Of Battle Creek, Died Wednesday, March 19, 2014, in Battle Creek. Robert was born on March 8, 1925, in Battle Creek, the son of Guy O. and Minnie M. (Hess) Crooks. He was a lifelong resident of the area graduating from Lakeview High School in 1943. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1943 to 1945. On August 7, 1965, he married the former Dorothy I. Merrick, who preceded him in death. Robert worked for John Lenz Repair Service in Battle Creek from 1956 to 1962. Then he was co-owner of Springfield Auto Service from 1963 to 1987. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, the Veteran Motor Car Club of America (VMCCA) and a past member of the Lion’s Club. He enjoyed restoring antique autos, rebuilding late model wrecks, model airplanes, bowling and growing roses. Surviving are children, Michael M. (Lori) Crooks of Leslie, MI and Tamara S. Crooks of Battle Creek; 3 grandchildren, Stephany and Robert Crooks and Mara (Joseph) Runyon. Visitation will be held Monday from 2 to 4:00 p.m. and 6 to 8:00 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the funeral home. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
