Richard “Rich” Gerard Dobb, 63 of Battle Creek, Michigan passed away unexpectedly on June 28, 2020 at home peacefully after spending the day before watching his grandson play baseball. Rich was born in Muskegon, Michigan to Delmar E. and Shirley R. Dobb on August 14, 1956. He went to high school at Muskegon Catholic Central and graduated in 1974. Rich attended college in Ohio prior to a degree as an electrical journeyman. Rich was a member of the IBEW Union. Rich held many positions through the years, such as electrical foreman and supervisory roles. Most recently as a Maintenance Planner at Magna in Battle Creek. One of his favorite things to do was to mentor young electricians and help them become the best they could be. Rich is survived by his wife, Patty of Battle Creek, who he loved dearly and made her family his own as our bonus. He is also survived by son, Bryan (Brooke) Mueller and Kelly (Mueller) Burk, grandchildren, Hayden and Camryn Mueller and Brody Burk all of Battle Creek. Sister Rosanne Dobb and companion Richard Doran of Muskegon, brother Michael (Sally) Dobb of Grand Rapids, nephew Stephen and nieces Kelly and Molly and their families. Rich is preceded in death by his father, Delmar E. Dobb, mother, Shirley R. Dobb and brother Patrick Dobb as well as a close brother-in-law and friend Michael Slack of Battle Creek. Rich’s biggest passion and happiest place to be was with his family, especially with his three grandchildren, Hayden, Camryn and Brody. There was not a game that was missed or captured by Papa Rich’s camera. He could always be found on the sidelines beaming with pride while he watched his babies do what they loved. Over the years of watching the grandkids participate in many sports, plays and school events he took on the role of a universal papa to all the kids. They were all welcome over to the house to play or swim in the pool while papa sat in all his glory just observing all the laughter from his perch. Some of his favorite hobbies included Detroit Red Wings, Michigan State University athletics, concerts, the beach and walking around barefoot or rocking his flip flops while listening to Neil Young. A small ceremony was held on Monday, July 6 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home in Battle Creek, Michigan. A celebration of life is being planned for later in the summer and all will be welcome to attend. Memorial donations may be made to Lakeview Athletic Department through Venmo @Kelly-Burk-7 or sent to Patricia Mueller at 1027 W. Highland Blvd Battle Creek Michigan 49015 and then turned over to the athletic department in Rich’s name and honor, one of the kids biggest fans. www.henryfuneralhome.org
