Richard L. Ver Lee, Age 93, Of Battle Creek, Died Wednesday June 7, 2017 at Reflections Memory Care. Richard was born on June 2, 1924, in Zeeland, MI, the son of James and Alice (Zevalkink) Ver Lee. He was a veteran Serving in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a graduate of Moody Bible School in 1950 and then earned his Master’s degree from the University of Arkansas in 1970. In 1971, he married the former Eleanor M. Tromp. They were married 46 years. Richard owned and operated Ver Lee Carpet Cleaning for 30 years. He was a Wycliffe Bible Translator and worked in Mexico Aztec to translate scriptures for 5 years. He was in public relations for Wycliffe in the lower Midwest for 15 years. For years he was a camp counselor at Jack and Jill Bible Camp (now Pine Ridge Bible Camp) founded by his parents in 1946. He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church, taught Sunday School, member of the Gideons, involved in Bible Clubs in Bath, NY and enjoyed working in the yard. Surviving is his wife Eleanor; his children, Richard Ver Lee II of Phoenix, AZ and Joy Orandaun of McDonald, PA; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Philip Steven Ver Lee; a brother, Dr. James Ver Lee Jr., a sister, Joan Ver Lee- DeYoung and a sister, Miriam Ver Lee in 1928. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with The Rev. Adam Metzger officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the service. Interment with full military honors will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
