Richard Vandorsten

Richard A. VanDorsten, age 93, of Battle Creek, passed away Monday, October 28, 2013. He was born May 28, 1920 in Battle Creek, Michigan the son of Charles and Myrtle (Messenger) VanDorsten. A lifelong resident of the area, he owned and operated VanDorsten Brothers Trucking and the Frontier Gun Shop for many years. On February 13, 1944 Richard was married to Dorothy M. (Custer) who survives. Also surviving are five sons and their spouses: Roy (Pam) VanDorsten, David (Sandra) VanDorsten, Tom (Anelda) VanDorsten, Todd (Colleen) VanDorsten and Tim (Brenda) VanDorsten; two daughters-in-law: Brenda VanDorsten and Susan VanDorsten; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister: Julia (Ruben) Peterson; one brother: John (Kay) VanDorsten; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. VanDorsten was preceded in death by two sons: Ted and Richard VanDorsten; four brothers: Chuck, Floyd, Arthur and Roy, and two sisters: Betty Lou and Arnita. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Townsend of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
