Richard Paul Rench, Age 82, Of Battle Creek, Died on December 3, 2014. Richard was born on April 9, 1932, in Battle Creek, the son of Harlow V. and Virginia “Edna” (Reiling) Rench. He had been a lifelong resident of the area and attended Battle Creek Central High School where he was active in band and Band Follies. After high school he attended the Chicago School of Music. He was a lifetime member of the International Musicians Union and had a very musical family. Richard had a dance band called “The Preludes”. They were popular locally and also in Branson Missouri. While in Branson he volunteered as a Salvation Army Bell Ringer. He played his sax and the kettle had to be emptied often and always had the kettle that collected the most. Surviving are his aunts, Phyllis Herr and Virginia Reiling both of Battle Creek; nieces, nephews and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Harlow in 1970, his mother Edna in 1995 and a brother David in 2014. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place and a private family memorial will be held at a later date.
