Richard A. Henry, age 88, of Battle Creek, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Bronson at Home Hospice Residence. He was born July 25, 1926 in Corning, Ohio the son of Maurice and Bertha (Shepard) Henry and moved to Edmore, Michigan shortly thereafter with his family. A 1945 graduate of Edmore High School, he served in the U.S. Army from June 1945 to December 1946. Following his honorable discharge he attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science from which he graduated in June of 1948 and began his career in funeral service. He reenlisted in the Army serving from December 1950 to October 1951 and returned to Battle Creek where he served the community for over 65 years. Dick was a dedicated and caring funeral service professional opening the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with his wife Shirley, on January 1, 1964. He was a 50 year member of the Lakeview Kiwanis Club and a 50 year member of the First Presbyterian Church. On November 25, 1959 he was married to Shirley L. (Speer) in Waterloo, Indiana who survives. Also surviving is a brother-in-law: Phil (Linda) Speer; Aunt Mary Swartz, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers: Donald, Harold, William and George. Visitation will be held Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the Funeral Home with interment following at Memorial Park Cemetery.
