Richard Gibson, age 87, of Battle Creek, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2016. He was born March 21, 1929 in Battle Creek, Michigan, the son of Gayle and Sara (Burton) Gibson. He graduated from Battle Creek Central, and served honorably in the US Army from 1950 to 1956. He then went on to work at Kellogg’s for 25 years where he retired in 1991. Dick was an avid fisherman his entire life and one of his fondest childhood memories was of fishing in the Battle Creek River with his brother Bill. He also enjoyed traveling up north to Watersmeet, Michigan with family each year. June 12, 1954 he was married to Joan Gibson (Banaszak). Richard is survived by his daughters: Catherine Sue (John) Hartgerink and Marsha Kaye (Harold) Wolf; sisters: Marion Rohrig and Janice Hughes; several grandchildren and a great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife Joan; brothers: Bill Gibson and Robert Gibson; sisters: Meredith Kolvoord and Betty Houghtaling. Visitation will be Wednesday June 8th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a rosary at 7:00 pm at Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2016 at St. Jerome Catholic Church with interment to follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
